Guatemala 200hr ytt
July 27 — Aug 10, 2025
the retreat & training:
Join Morgan O’Hare and the Present Practice Yoga community for an unforgettable 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training! This training is half online (May - July) and half in-person as a 15-day Retreat & Training Intensive in beautiful Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. The best part about this magical YTT is the two weeks we have together in Lake Atitlan, which is the cultural and spiritual center of Guatemala, on a majestic lake surrounded by volcanoes. We will have exclusive use of Casa Floresta, a beautiful retreat center with a large yoga shala overlooking the lake and volcanoes, sauna for free time, grass lawns by the water for lounging, paddle boards, and wonderful retreat chef who makes the most nourishing and healthy food to fuel us through training. Casa Floresta is just minutes by boat from San Marcos la Laguna, a town renowned for its spirituality and yoga scene. This is one of Morgan’s all-time favorite retreat centers in the world.
While our days are pretty packed with yoga training, there is a 3-hour afternoon break each day to be on the water, detox and renew in the temazcal sauna and plant bath, or lounge at the main house or grass lawns. You can also use this time to explore nearby towns like San Marcos or San Juan.
Lake Atitlan, guatemala
Lake Atitlan is in a massive volcanic crater in Guatemala’s southwestern highlands. Ringed by steep, verdant hills, it’s known for its Mayan villages and volcanoes with striking pointed cones. Mayan culture is preserved and felt deeply here. Lake Atitlan is a few hours’ drive from Guatemala City, with quaint and culturally exquisite villages all around (we will get to explore the area!).
We are lucky to be staying and training at one of the most beautiful retreat centers in the world! We will stay at Casa Florestra, a beautiful and newly built retreat center by a lovely Australian couple Morgan met on her second trip to Guatemala. The retreat center is absolutely stunning with its lake-front lawn and fire pit, intentionally-crafted yoga shala and temple, and luxury finishes throughout. Casa Colibri is located directly next door and is where we will be sleeping, so we will have both properties exclusively for our group. The accommodations are beautiful and have everything you need to feel relaxed and at peace.
The food at the retreat center is vibrant, fresh, nourishing, and vegetarian - there will be 4 meal times per day (9am coffee/tea/smoothies, 11:30am brunch, 2:30pm light lunch/snack, 6pm dinner) - there will be more than enough food to fuel you for all retreat activities! However, you can also explore local restaurants (and meat options) during free time. There is also filtered water always available.
During free time, we can swim in the lake, explore nearby towns, reflect and journal, or simply hang out on the lawn or in one of the communal areas in the retreat center.
training intensive
The yoga temple along the water will hold majority of our training sessions. It is equipped with all the yoga mats and props we will need. In our morning sessions, we will start with 30 minutes of silent meditation — one of the objectives of the training is for each trainee to develop a meditation practice. After meditation, we will have our asana practice taught by Morgan, emphasizing the philosophy concept to be covered that day. The practice will be followed by discussion and reflection around different philosophical concepts in yoga.
Workshops following breakfast will be a mix of teaching methodology (such as hands-on assists), interactive workshops like mala bead making, and curriculum concepts such as the subtle body or the business of yoga. Afternoon sessions are asana clinics, where we will go through asana-by-asana and discuss alignment, cueing, and any necessary information for each. This will be followed by practice teaching and feedback!
